April 2025 Newsletter
Greetings from Move Lebo! April showers bring May flowers, right?! We have a solid lineup of warm weather activities coming your way. Our first event is this Saturday, April 12th at 9am. Please join us as we work to restore the Pennsylvania Blvd Trail. We’re excited to get back out into the community doing fun, interactive events with you! And in the spirit of warm weather and new growth, we want to start off by sharing some of our recent milestones.
CELEBRATING WINS!
The Citizen Improvement Street Design Policy, drafted by Move Lebo, was passed by the Mobility Board and is now under review by the Commission.
The Automatic Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) initiative is garnering support from local legislators. Please help keep the momentum going by signing this petition!
Move Lebo was the featured story in the February issue of South Hills Living.
Move Lebo is co-sponsoring Lebo Green’s Earth Day event by functioning as a fiscal sponsor, a major achievement as a new nonprofit!
Earth Day Celebration: April 27th
We have a fun lineup of activities to celebrate Earth Day this year and we’d love your help. We’ll be hosting another Learn to Ride Bike Course. The bike course was a huge success last year so we’re excited to recreate it! We will have a few balance bikes and pedal bikes to use along with helmets. If you’d like to BYOB(bike) that works too! Helmets are required for all riders. (A very special thank you to BikePGH for their continued support & for lending us bikes and supplies!)
Along with the bike course, we’ll have a Move Lebo tent where folks can create DIY reflective gear and bike streamers. Help spread the word to your family and friends. This event is a wonderful opportunity for kids to enjoy a safe, car-free riding experience!
Planning to ride your own bike to Earth Day? Our bike valet has got you covered! Look for our bike valet racks in the upper parking lot near the bike course.
Interested in volunteering at Earth Day with Move Lebo? Drop us a line! (We are looking for help with the bike course and our reflective gear creation station.)

ACTION ALERT: PRT FUNDING CRISIS
We sent an action alert email earlier this week but for those of you who missed it, we want to take a moment to emphasize the dire situation our community is facing. Access to transit is critical to making our community more connected, vibrant, and walkable. We’ve frequently heard from our members and through public comments at municipal meetings that access to transit is one of the reasons people choose to move to and stay in Mt. Lebanon. However, Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) is facing a funding crisis that could lead to huge service cuts across the Pittsburgh region and a fare increase to one of the highest in the country.
For Mt. Lebanon, that means starting next year we could see:
Truncation of the Red Line to Castle Shannon
Elimination of all bus service
Service ending at 11pm system-wide
$3 per ride fares, the same as New York City
Halting the Bus Line Redesign, which proposed new direct bus routes from Mt. Lebanon to Oakland and Carnegie
These changes will reverberate across the region – bringing more traffic to our already congested roads, worsening air pollution and stalling economic productivity.
To learn more about how we got here, see the info page on PRT’s website here.
How Can You Help?
Join us in advocating for a dedicated, long-term funding source for public transit. By acting now, we can secure the future of our transportation system and continue providing essential services to all. Local advocacy group Pittsburghers for Public Transit and statewide group Transit 4 All PA put together a form to contact state officials – Use the links to add your personal anecdotes about the importance of PRT.
For Mt. Lebanon residents, you can also contact Rep. Dan Miller and Sen. Wayne Fontana directly. When doing so, voice your support for transit’s vitality to our region (personal anecdotes are always good!), and ask that they work to create a dedicated funding stream for transit.
PRT is collecting public comments to help build the case for a dedicated funding stream. Sign up to attend a public hearing on April 29, May 6th and June 12. Pre-register now to ask questions and show your support for public transit!
Lastly, we need you to speak up! Tell your friends, family, and neighbors about the PRT funding crisis and encourage them to get involved – every voice counts!
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. Together we can help protect the future of public transit in our region.
E-BIKE GROUP RIDE
Sunday, May 4 / 1:30pm / starting at Needle and Bean
Calling all e-bikes! Have an e-bike and want to learn the best/safest routes to get around your neighborhood? Or maybe you have questions about how to make e-biking part of your daily routine. The goal is to build community and help riders gain the confidence and knowledge needed for road riding. The ride will be led by two avid e-bike riders and Move Lebo members, Beth & Morgan. The route will connect riders to three Mt. Lebanon business districts, using mostly quiet, residential roads. The ride is designed for beginners and will move at a leisurely pace, originating and ending at Needle and Bean. No experience required. We’ll be there to help with the basics and to unload bikes, etc. or get a couple laps in prior to the start. The ride will last approximately 30 minutes. We’ll top off the ride with some of the best coffee in town while we chat about future rides. This ride is open to riders without e-bikes but please note we will be navigating a number of hills.
POINTS OF INTEREST: 3 Business Districts, 4 Schools, Coffee Shops/Restaurants, Library, Rec Center/Pool
neighborhood walk & Talk: Saturday, May 10 @ 9:30am
Valley Park Drive and Catalpa (Meet at Williamsburg Park @ 9:30)
In support of our "Dude, Where's My Complete Street?!" project, we are coordinating our 1st Neighborhood Walk & Talk! The goal of “Dude, Where’s my Complete Street?!” is to redesign/reenvision a street BEFORE it is repaved. These walks are designed to get people thinking about and experiencing how the environment works for all users, not just cars, and discussing how to make it better. Gather your neighbors and join us - hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please contact Morgan.
